Onitsuka Tiger is one of Japan's oldest shoe brands, and its history dates back to the formation of Onitsuka Co., Ltd. in 1949, when 32-year-old former military officer Kihachiro Onitsuka founded his company in the hope of raising the self-esteem of post-war youth through sport. Then, after a hiatus, the brand was relaunched in 2002 with stores in major world capitals such as Paris, London, Berlin and Amsterdam, and global distribution through selected retailers such as sivasdescalzo.
