Traction on the Kobe 6 Protro Reverse Grinch, and on any Kobe 6 for that matter, is excellent. However, It takes some time to break in, so just keep that in mind. The sole is constructed with a combination of solid and translucent rubber, etched with a snake scale traction pattern, which offers great multi-directional coverage.

Once the traction is properly broken in this is one of the best Kobes ever in terms of traction, and of almost any hoop shoe in general.

Now, we doubt anyone on this planet would use a schwarz of Kobe 6s outdoors, but if you do you’re going to burn through the traction quickly. That translucent rubber is on the softer side and the traction pattern is very shallow, so if you’re planning on hooping in these (and you really should), make sure to do so indoors.

Nike subbed out Phylon for Cushlon, incorporated a Zoom Turbo unit that covers the majority of the forefoot, and removed the Zoom Air unit in the heel. This combination of cushioning tech makes for a nice responsive experience on court, with enough impact protection to keep your legs fresh.

Nike Sportswear gives their classic super innovative back in 2010, and still hold up in terms of performance in 2023. The Kobe 6 also comes with a great insole designed to mold to your foot the more you wear the shoe. Kobe wanted a shoe that molded to his foot and that’s exactly what he got.

All of this, coupled with the construction of the upper makes for a very secure ride on court. The shoe molds perfectly to your foot and all of the support features keep you securely strapped in as you make your cuts and changes of direction on court.

If you are lucky enough to get your hands on a schwarz, or you pick a schwarz up for re-sale, make sure to go with your usual Nike size.

The original Nike Kobe 6 is one of the best performance basketball shoes ever created, and this updated protro version might just be a little bit better. Nike has brought us “protros” in the past that haven’t lived up to the term, offering little or no performance updates. Kobe, who actually coined the term, would be proud of this model as it makes an almost perfect shoe that much better.

As far as the colorway goes, it may not be as iconic as the standard Grinch colorway, but it’s still sleek and bright. Your chances of actually getting a schwarz are slim to none, but if you’re one of the lucky few to get a W you will be purchasing a really awesome basketball shoe.
