As Rihanna continues to drop everything but music, the multi-hyphenate has finally kicked off the return of her Fenty x PUMA line with a brand-new sneaker. Having teased the label’s comeback earlier this year, fans were quick to start speculating whether its return would bring back classics like the Suede Creeper or the Fluff Slide, but to no one’s real surprise the resulting pair is bang on trend for 2023. So, without further ado, allow us to introduce the Fenty x PUMA Avanti sneaker.
Leaning hard into the Blokecore aesthetic, the Fenty x Puma Avanti sees PUMA’s 2001 Avanti sneaker get reimagined, however, the Avanti itself has roots both in football and in high fashion. The style’s conception actually began with the brand’s 1968 PUMA KING football boot, which was worn by game legends such as Pele and Maradona, and in 1998 it was fused with a running shoe, the Puma Miele, under a collaboration with Jil Sander. The resulting sneaker then went on to form the basis for the 2001 Puma Avanti, which RiRi has now updated with a few of her own signature twists.
Speaking on the model, Rihanna said: "I wanted to bring something iconic from the archives to the streets, and the great Pele just made the Avanti shoe legendary."
Chief Product Officer at PUMA Maria Valdes then added: “We spent time together opening up the PUMA archive and identifying the right product that spoke to Rihanna. The Avanti is a PUMA classic with a unique and iconic point of view on terrace. I’m very happy to see this project come to life and even more excited for what the coming years have in store for us together.”
The Fenty x PUMA Avanti is set to drop on September the 17th in both “Silver and “Black White”.
