In 2022 we saw the return of the Japanese cult favourite, the New Balance 580, a silhouette that only received a global release in 2007. The 580 went on to earn a reputation among the streets of Harajuku thanks to collaborations with Japanese retailers such as Mita Sneakers and Real MadHECTIC who put their spin on the New Balance numbered underdog. Now with 2023 well underway, general release pairs such as this “Blue Multi” are throwing it back to the early 2000s colour palettes and successfully capturing the 580’s original energy.
This release isn’t shying away from bright accents, a detail that we saw on the Stray Rats and Palace Skateboard collaborative editions which made them hard to ignore. A heavy brushed suede forms the lower portion of the upper, its dark blue tones being broken up by a shade of light green. Following upwards onto the toe box and ankle collar, a thick mesh underlay provides the basis for all the other vibrant pink and neon hits to bounce off. The midsole continues with that theme, telling a similar story with its contrasting duotone and hit of neon at the heel. Inside, the party carries on with two mismatched insoles maintaining the same colourful energy as the NB580’s exterior.
This New Balance 580 “Blue Multi” might be a general release but it sure turns up with all the careful thought that you would find with a collaboration or special edition. Make sure you don’t sleep on these and tune into JuzsportsShops to grab your pair!
